SCORING GUIDE
Albums are rated on a 100-point scale across six criteria, balancing personal taste with critical reception, artistic achievement, and historical significance.
| Criterion | Points |
|---|---|
| Taste | 20 |
| Acclaim | 15 |
| Innovation | 20 |
| Quality | 20 |
| Time Adjustment | 10 |
| Influence | 15 |
| Total | 100 |
01 — TASTE / 20
How deeply I connect with an album, regardless of its reputation. This includes personal attachment and the desire to return to it over time.
02 — ACCLAIM / 15
The album’s standing among critics and listeners, both at the time of release and in retrospect. Critical consensus is considered separately from my own taste.
03 — INNOVATION / 20
How far the album introduced new ideas, sounds, or approaches at the time of its release. This measures originality in its historical context, not its later influence.
04 — QUALITY / 20
The overall strength of the music as a finished work: composition, performance, production, sequencing, and coherence, considered independently of personal preference.
05 — TIME ADJUSTMENT / 10
A time-based adjustment reflecting how long an album’s reputation has had to develop and be tested. It is not a judgment of whether the music sounds timeless.
- 1025+ years since release
- 915–24 years
- 88–14 years
- 74–7 years
- 62–3 years
- 50–1 year
06 — INFLUENCE / 15
The album’s lasting impact on subsequent artists, genres, scenes, and production methods. Innovation asks what was new then; influence asks what remained afterward.
TOTAL SCORE

- 80–84Excellent

A NOTE ON SCORES
These ratings are not definitive statements of an album’s worth. Because they combine personal taste with broader historical considerations, the highest-scoring albums are not necessarily the ones I love most.
A difference of one or two points should generally be read as belonging to the same level. Scores may change as I discover new music, revisit albums, or reconsider their historical standing.
Each rating is a record of how I understand and experience the music at that point in time—not a final verdict.
