NOTES ON SOUND.

English Ver:
Leaving the Illusions Behind, Into the Blues of the Open Road

A return to their roots, Morrison Hotel leaves behind the elaborate arrangements of its predecessor, The Soft Parade, and brings back the raw blues and rock ’n’ roll, driven by Jim Morrison’s untamed spirit. From the opening notes of “Roadhouse Blues,” an earthy groove takes hold, while Morrison’s voice sounds effortlessly cool, like a bluesman wandering through the wilderness. Against the album’s thoroughly bluesy backdrop, Ray Manzarek’s organ takes on a different character from the almost ritualistic eeriness of Strange Days, delivering a more muscular and driving sound. Yet the sharp funkiness of “Peace Frog” and the dreamlike beauty of “Indian Summer” remain unmistakably Doors. A classic that captures the primal appeal of the blues.
