ガレージ・ロックの荒々しさにブルース、サイケデリア、ノイズが入り乱れ、ジェフ・ベックのギターはガラの悪い凶暴さを持って、時に壊れかけた機械のような異音を撒き散らす。まだサイケデリック・ロックが形を決める前の自由さはむしろ奇跡。汚く、歪で、何が飛び出すかわからない危うさこそが『Roger the Engineer』の魅力だ。そして、その延長線上にあるベックとジミー・ペイジが共演した「※Psycho Daisies」はさらに凶暴。あの執拗で攻撃的なギター・リフには、60年代半ばとは思えない暴力性がある。
